Amrita hosts IEEE All India Student Congress

Amrita University hosted Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers – All India Student Congress (IEEE-AISC) 2013 at Coimbatore campus from October 3-6, 2014.
IEEE-AISC is an annual leadership development conclave to bring together young IEEE student and professional members for a series of interactions, knowledge exchange and networking opportunities.
With Advancing Technology for Humanities as motto, the three day student congress attracted over 370 delegates from various IEEE sections all over India.
Dr. Ponna Vaikko, Chairman, IEEE India Council and Vice-Chancellor, SRM University inaugurated the Congress. “Each IEEE student volunteer can organize a program to adopt a school student, to give training, and certificate, which earns them a better career,” he advised the student volunteers.
Participants had the opportunity to attend an elite panel discussion and workshops on entrepreneurship, where they learned from experienced IEEE leaders and interacted with three young successful entrepreneurs. Vijay Anand, Co-founder and CEO, The Startup Centre, spoke to the delegates, “Entrepreneurship is always experimental. We need time and effort to become an entrepreneur. Do not try to copy while you want to be an entrepreneur. You have resourcefulness and need to have dedication towards your work,” he pointed out.
“Indians are born with ‘jugaad’ innovative ideas providing a quick and alternative way of solving a problem”, noted Priya Kuber, Managing Director of Arduino India.
Vineeth Vijayaraghavan, Founder and Editor of Panchabhuta, an independent journal in the field of renewable energy, emphasized about social entrepreneurship.
Technical talks on IEEE sections and activities, career consultation also held. 33 shortlisted innovative projects from numerous submissions across the nation were showcased.The event also witnessed the felicitation of M. V. Chauhan All India Student Paper Contest 2013 winners organized by Indian Council.
“With the successful conduct of this AISC, Amrita has emerged in a leadership position among universities in India in professional body activity, having organized the top student events of 4 professional bodies namely IEEE, Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Computer Society of India (CSI) and Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE)”, proudly noted Prashant R. Nair, Vice Chairperson, Department of Information Technology.
“From AISC 2013, I gained lot of understanding in the field of technology,” commented Elbin C. Mathew, participant from St. Xavier’s Catholic College of Engineering, Kanyakumari.
